Besides the blood test and semen analysis, the other procedure which may be needed to reach to an initial diagnosis include:

Hysterosalpingogram –This is an x-ray procedure usually performed on Day 7/8 of the cycle. It is used to determine whether the fallopian tubes are patent and capable of functioning properly. It also reveals the uterine contour, any irregularities, presence of fibroids or adhesions inside the uterine cavity. If any abnormalities are detected in HSG, these are further confirmed and corrected by doing a Hysteroscopy and Laparoscopy.

Laparoscopy –It is a surgical procedure performed under general anaesthesia as a day care procedure. It involves inserting a telescope-like device through a small incision near the navel to view the pelvic cavity, the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and the uterus. Any abnormalities detected during the procedure like uterine fibroids, endometriosis or pelvic adhesions can be tackled at the same time.

Hysteroscopy –It is again a surgical procedure performed under general anaesthesia. It involves evaluation of the inside of the uterine cavity by insertion of a telescope through the cervix. This is usually performed in conjunction with a laparoscopy; but is also done as a separate procedure before the IVF cycle.
